If our space program was run with the same competence and accountability that we see applied to our pandemic response, would we still be trying to achieve low Earth orbit? Would we have even successfully had a rocket clear the launchpad tower since starting the effort in the 1950s? Would we have just thrown up our hands, concluded rocketry is too hard, and basically given up trying to get off the Earth?
