My SO was just told The Hartford is going to be pursuing a 5%-7% reduction in force over the next 18-24 months. It seems the expanded horizon will allow the company to offer early retirement packages to employees in hopes enough take them up on it that they won't have to do involuntary layoffs. I don't think most public companies will have the luxury or frankly the heart to show so much respect and concern for their employees.
The irony is the GOP whines about the threat of socialism when the reality is we right now have an entire economy being propped up by government spending and Federal Reserve purchasing assets as a buyer of last resort. What happens when the Fed printing press stops? How many companies and jobs will be lost then?
