How many other states are misreporting data? All of them? We know not everyone who gets infected is tested, so have only guesses as to how many in fact are. I agree the case data isn't that important, but if that is the method chosen to guide response, then it is problematic to have it be incorrect.
Still, it has baffled me since March why we don't to random population testing and instead require an asinine list of prerequisites before you can get tested. Unless, of course, you play pro sports.
We could be doing faster, cheaper less sensitive tests en masse. We could be doing random population sampling with high sensitivity, like is done to detect flu. Instead, we choose the third, dumbest, most expensive, and useless option available, high sensitivity, high cost, low volume testing that takes too long for results to matter. SMH.
