Not to say that the protests actually slowed down the protests, by any means, as the analysis is very confounded.  But if there were a strong effect from the protests it would probably be apparent in the statewide data.

Interesting.  Shows a 2% increase in COVID cases in Minneapolis from 6/1 to 8/1.  The Worldometer daily case figures seems to indicate something different:

I think you mis-read the axis.  By relative increase they don't mean percent increase, they mean fold increase.  Minnesota, which is closer to 1 on the y-axis than 2, had an increase from 358 new cases on June 1 to 725 cases August 1, a 1.03-fold increase.
