Since prisoners eligible for firefighting crews are only the most trustworthy ones, it seems inevitable that they would also be the ones eligible for release when the prisons need to be thinned out because of the virus. What doesn't make sense to me is that, once they are out, there is no way for them to continue the work. There are probably many former prisoners having trouble making a living right now that worked fire crews while in prison and would be interested in using those skills to earn a paycheck. However, they are prohibited from doing so. I understand why people wouldn't want former convicts in their local municipal fire department. But I fail to see why they would not be suitable for forest fire crews if they were deemed suitable while in prison.
