I have found this whole line somewhat reassuring. The massive fires of the last few years' are in fact a natural and inevitable phenomenon, not an unprecedented disaster. 

It is easy to fall into the delusion that humankind stands beyond natural forces, able to control and manage the whole of the environment in which it lives. Not so, as these recurrent fires and another event have reminded us.
