Thanks for posting the Pelosi video, Mick.

I knew there was WAY more to the story than the internet outrage sphere was bothering to be concerned about.

That salon owner sure is dumb. It's not Pelosi's fault her salon was closed. But more importantly, she is really popular in S.F. That business is going to suffer big time from doing such an underhanded thing.

I have no idea if the business will suffer or not. Right now, it is suffering a lot anyway, so they may not care. Was Pelosi set up? It sure looks like it. However, using the old test that morality is what you do when you think nobody is watching, Pelosi pretty much fails the test IMHO. Unfortunately, I think (well, in my neighborhood I know) that there are plenty of people who are very compliant except when they are not. This is a problem, and has been all along. We couldn't "crush the curve" at least partially because of this problem. It isn't just Pelosi. It is lots of us.

There is (correctly IMHO) lots of condemnation of the people who won't wear masks and who think COVID-19 is "a hoax". They are a big problem. However, there are also unfortunately even more people who "mostly" comply. As has been pointed out on this board, the "mostly" standard isn't going to allow us to control the disease. Put these two types of non-compliance together, coupled with people who will not follow quarantine/isolation requirements and we are where we are.

I would agree with the thrust of this post if not for the "Pelosi's office checked with the salon owner to see if it was within the guidelines to go to the salon" little factoid. It's not up to a customer to know the protocols. It's up to the business owner.  And most customers expect businesses to be honest with them when they ask questions.

As an aside, my SO was planning to attend a group exercise class yesterday. It was originally to be outside, but it was raining and moved inside so she didn't go.  I asked why it is going inside and questioned if that was even allowed.  She said she didn't know and it isn't allowed. So I asked if she was going to call and report the guy for violating health ordinances.  She said no. So this fitness trainer guy welcomed I don't know what it was 10 or 15 people inside his studio and didn't let them know it was not allowed. No word yet on if he was punk'ing any elected representative and outing them on social media.

Agreed, except for those who hold themselves out to be arbiters of public health safety, are in a position to encourage others and to castigate those who don't follow that behavior.  And that's Nancy Pelosi.  She hectors constantly on doing the right thing, and that's just fine, someone has to do it.  But if you're going to do it, you'd better be above reproach.  Ask any clergyperson caught en flagrante .  Yes, you were set up, but 4x a year you stand on the pulpit and rail against that activity.  There's no such thing as being set up if you're supposed to not only know the rules, but be on top of them and -- oh yeah -- do a little bit of legislating yourself.  And if your nephew is Governor of that state, then no one set you up, sister...
