Never underestimate the value of really short or really long hair.  

The former does require more frequent cutting, but you trade frequency for simplicity.  The latter you don't cut as frequently, but it gets in the way and has to be combed in most cases.  

I've had both and have probably saved thousands of dollars on hair cutting over my lifetime as a result.
