The 8 deaths were the number reported (not occurring) on one day, which is delayed by maybe a week from the deaths. The county's data indicate no day in the last week+ with more than 4 deaths occurring on any particular day. When looking at SCC death charts, note that the LTCF deaths sit above the non-LTCF deaths. I think it is pretty clear SCC had more deaths in late March to early May than we are having now (back when testing was very limited so we didn't know the number of cases).
If you toggle back and forth between cases & deaths in the graphic, you can see that deaths are almost a full month behind cases. But all it takes is an outbreak in a LTCF to really increase the number of deaths.
What I see when I look at the data is that cases probably peaked around August 1, except the lack of testing (July 20 and later) obscured the peak as cases were never detected. The deaths started to kick in about mid-August and look to me like we have maybe passed the peak (but I could be misled by delays in reporting the deaths).
