Well, it’s not a two way street is kind of the point. It is true the athletes get some value, but waiving scholarship fees cost schools nothing. Schools must pay for meals, training staff, equipment, travel, but those are all COGS; every business has expenses.

I think the Pac players have a lot of leverage now, arguably more so than players in any other conference (there are so many rabid B10 and SEC fans that any group of players "demanding" change in a way that would threaten the season might get booed out of the state; meanwhile Hank's position seems pretty popular among fans here).

But will they use it, and, if so, for what ends?

The players, as usual, have very little leverage.  Especially now.  No one (or very few) cares whether the Pac plays football or sits it out.  And making "demands" during a pandemic (other than safety-based ones) is such a bad look.

And btw, the "market value" - isn't that the term often cited by the "pay the players" crowd ? - of what these scholarship athletes are receiving is WAY higher than the tuition amount.  How much higher?  Well, you can take a look at the admissions scandal for some sort of market check.  The notion that scholarship athletes are not compensated is laughable.  As someone else said, the only question is whether it is "enough."  That is open to wide debate (and if not for Title IX, the major sports athletes might have more support for getting some kind of additional payment).
