Caring less about the deaths of 50+yos than 20-50yos doesn't fit with the belief system in which I believe.  I don't believe it fits with beliefs based upon the equality of persons.

It isn't a matter of caring less. It is treating both groups exactly the same. Unfortunately, exposing people 50+ to COVID-19 is much more dangerous (apparently) than exposing those 20-50 years old. Treating both groups exactly the same produces different results, but I think many people say "I am willing/able to do X, but no more than X". If X isn't safe for 50+ people but is for 20-50 people, so be it.

I think Sweden may accidentally have demonstrated this behavior. As their director of heath stated, if they had it to do over again, they would have increased their effort to protect older people. They thought they had done enough, but it didn't turn out that way.
