Why was it unexpected? I was surprised by this one. I mean, if the season was not until next year, I could see a conflict, but if it starts in a month, why not show NFL scouts what he can do? If he had concerns about Covid, absolutely, I respect any student athlete opting out of the season for their safety. But if Adebo isnt concerned about Covid and believes the economy should re-open, why would he opt out now?
Just speculating... Perhaps he got feedback that he's considered a 1st or 2nd rounder and thinks there's no upside in playing the shortened season, but plenty of risk in doing so (getting Covid, injury, playing poorly and dropping in the draft).
That would make sense, and would also be consistent with Walker Little's announcement.
(I imagined that NFL teams might penalize players who sit out. I'm glad if the NFL doesn't pressure college players to play this year, as I feel strongly that players should be able to opt-out without penalty).
