This entire situation is so hard to imagine that anything is possible, but I basically agree with you. It all depends on how many GOP senators want to hang on to the very limited Trump base as opposed to actually trying to advocate/articulate a rational conservative ideology, which we really haven't seen any trace of in the current administration. It is lots easier to tell the public what you think they want to hear, try to bribe them with borrowed OPM, and then to do nothing else, but maybe things will be serious enough that won't happen. OK, I admit it, it probably will happen, from both parties, but I am a hopeless romantic.
