Still think it was a no brainer for Gausman to accept and a head scratcher for the Giants to offer.
Given the depressed revenue this past season and in the near future, this year's free agency is going to be uglier than normal.
If he'd had enough innings to qualify, Gausman would have had the 10th best WHIP in the league.
Exactly. Small sample size. Not saying the Giants should have discarded him. But they probably could have signed him for a few million less. Money that could have gone to one of the bigger free agents. If they get outbid by a few million they can look back to the QO.
BTW, Gausman had similar stats in the second half of 2018 with the Braves. But then fell apart in 2019. Obviously if he can repeat his 2020 performance, he'll have earned his contract, but just seems like the Giants could have had a better deal.
