Those that don’t think this is serious never will.  No matter what you do. And the number in Calif and  particularly in the Bay Area, in that camp is small.  

 Cutting sports to show “it’s serious” is not a reasonable basis for making decisions relative to sports. And I don’t think your “ everyone says it’s ok” is accurate.  Not close. 

I’m also differentiating between pro and college spectator sports - which have a whole lot of protocols and “protections” locked into them - from such things as youth club sports which is an entirely different issue altogether. IMO the two are not remotely related.

The sports are just a first step of many we will see in the next 10 days.   So rest assured by mid December you will marvel at how Stanford played Cal on Nov 27th.

Here are things I would be willing to bet on.
1)  The Pac-12 will not have those 7th football games on 12/20.
2)  Santa Clara County is merely a test balloon.   Look for this policy to become similar to CA's policy in <7 days.
    a. Quarantine for anyone coming in or returning from any other state for 10-14 days.
    b. Prohibition on youth activities or scrimmages for any contact sports
    c. Postponement of CIF fall season start at end of December to TBD
    d. No college or pro contact sports in the state with any group from outside of the state.
3)  #2, of course, will not be sufficient for the reasons you note, so #3 will then be shelter-in-place/safer-at-home by December 15.

Going to #3 sucks, but we are a nation that simply doesn't get it.   COVID is deadly, but the real problem is that COVID zaps health care's human resources.   The USA can't run with the currently projected rate of COVID19 for 2-4 months.

Borrowing BC's analogy noted we are on the Titanic.   You can wonder why the crew closed the exercise room, but the rest of us are trying to figure out which lifeboat we can jump into.

Hopefully the ship won't sink, but now is not the time to wonder if you can get in a few reps.  

To more serious topics.   Stanford's winter quarter would seem to be in serious jeopardy with this announcement.   As it would be very hard to plan a return to campus in January with this order running through, at least, mid-December.

Love Stanford sports, but has anyone heard what Stanford might announce for the more important thing...the actual education thingy?
