Picking up a left handed bat will be important. David Dahl seems to be getting a big look. High risk, modest reward Injuries. Plus the Coors factor. Depends on the cost, of course. He can play all three positions, albeit modestly. And he’s hit - at least at Coors. He can run. But he doesn’t walk. Which in today’s game is a major sin. I mean now it’s - yeah he doesn’t hit much, but what great plate discipline.
I keep waiting for the organization that revamps it’s pitching philosophy. Go after hitters. Consistently. Don’t waste pitches when up in the count. Don’t be afraid to pitch to contact at times - especially lower end of the order guys. But wait, you say, they still hit 15 HRs. Fine. Do the math. Yes, you will give up HRs at times. But if their solos, we don’t care. You aren’t going to get beat by solo HRs. You walk people, you can enjoy your life in the minor leagues. Robin Roberts and Jim Palmer can explain..... (Well, Robin cantbas he’s gone. But you get my drift) And as for that “third time through the order bs” we are going to teach you to pitch. That means you don’t come out trying to strike everyone out. Unless you are Nolan Ryan and can give me 150 pitches and still throw gas. At 42. Smoltz explained that beautiful during WS.
