It's like why even bother playing the games? What, exactly, did the outcome of the ACC Championship mean in terms of playoff implications? Not a damn thing. And to go further downstream, how the hell did Oregon deserve to play for the Pac-12 championship?
I know for certain if Alabama had lost to Texas A&M, Texas A&M beat Florida, and Clemson throttled Notre Dame, it would have gone like this:
1. Clemson
2. Ohio State
3. Texas A&M
4. Alabama
The whole agenda today was to get Notre Dame on for TV ratings. But, Alabama is higher up the pecking order in terms of TV priority, so if ND needed to be bumped to get a 1-loss Alabama on, it would have happened. You know it, and I know it. I get that it is a TV show, but that's not what it is sold as being.
The CFP committee should be making it more attainable, by expanding the franchise. Not only is it not allowing more teams in, but it's also doing everything it can to keep the same teams in it year after year.
I will watch Alabama play Clemson in the final, because those are clearly the to best teams. But I have no interest watching Alabama crush Notre Dame or Clemson mopping up Ohio State.
Who cares. The NCS is mythical. There has never been a true playoff. I absolutely want to watch Bama crush ND. Hopefully by about 50. It’s good for the soul. Hopefully Clemson will do the same to OSU. But that should be a closer game. And OSU could win. That would be bad.
Maybe someday they will go to 6 or 8 teams and allow all conference champs in. Until then, we have this. It ain’t pure. But nothing is. Ivory Soap was once. But then there was that face on the detergent box....
Seriously, why take it so seriously.....
