In Pac-12 news, the Army coach is whining because Pac-12 teams don't want to play in meaningless bowls in this meaningless season so the Independence Bowl cancelled, meaning 9-2 Army is without a bowl opponent. But 12 out of 14 SEC schools are playing in bowls, including 2-8 South Carolina.

All of that makes sense to me.

Many of the Army athletes will confront many challenges in their career that could kill them and their teammates, so their willingness to play for the country during COVID is admirable in some way.

The Pac-12 teams played a season without family, friends or fans, so many of them don't want to endure another few weeks away from those people in their lives to play (insert name here) university in AL, MS, LA, or even TX.

The SEC teams have generally played games with friends, family and some fans in the stands.   That same situation will occur for the bowl game too.   So from the SEC view this is not that different than a normal year.  In most years a 5-7 team takes that bowl invite to get a few more weeks of practice, so not shocking to me that a 2-8 type team would find a few more weeks of practice valuable too.

We will definitely see is a large number of players opt out of the bowl game featuring 4-6 vs 2-8.   And I will say good for them.  Those that will want to note those players have an obligation to their teammates or their school can save that line of thinking for the 2021 season.

What are you talking about?  There is no obligation to their teammates or their school in any year.  Just ask C-Mac (who started the whole early-out exodus by healthy players).

BTW, I'm fine with Army being pissed or "whining" as one poster characterizes it; and I'm fine with P12 teams declining to play in bowls.
