Those guys just endured a mentally-taxing offseason, preseason, and regular season fraught with incredibly difficult obstacles and unprecedented circumstances. They had to be their own cheerleaders in empty stadiums (the noise difference between Stanford's sideline and Cal's sideline during Big Game was striking...I wish more people could've heard it for themselves). And yet they finished it all with a four-game winning streak, all on the road, and capped with a game that took everything they had. That's on top of playing the most physically demanding game in American team sports, which is not easy even in a normal season.
I'd suggest taking a moment to consider those things, then re-evaluate your assessment of how much passion for the game those guys have.
