Who said his only other option was to stay at Stanford?  I’m guessing he had other opportunities. (I wonder if Iowa was interested.  Stanley graduated. Their QB coming in was not good.  It’s a similar style to Stanford.  With a strong o-line.  That would have been a great fit). 

UW wanted him. LSU was also interested to some degree. I'm sure there were others; he was one of the hottest transfer QB names on the market.

KJ is a good QB. He isn't as much of a "natural" as some, but he has skills. Maybe some of the people who don't think Shaw gets a lot out of his players and doesn't elevate their game may want to contrast his time at Stanford with his time in Leachville. I would agree it is not a fair comparison, because KJ had much better receivers and generally better protection at Stanford. It is also true that Leach probably started looking to the future very quickly when he saw how bad his team actually was. All that said, KJ pretty much prospered at Stanford and did not at Mississippi State.
