The headline is misleading.  Yes, it takes some very misplaced priorities to cut a very important department while increasing spending on athletics.  But the real reason CS is getting cut (as the linked article mentions) is that the Florida legislature has drastically cut state appropriations for the university.  Most states have cut spending on higher education by a lot, but the cuts in Florida have been unusually severe.
