Santa Clara County, among all the counties in the US so far as I know, has chosen its ban on sports approach. There approach hasn’t solved the Covids problem but maybe people in Santa .Clara County are better off than they were before. We can’t know now so I for one am tired of speculating. And yes, I do believe playing college basketball confers more benefit on the players, the schools and the fans than the unknown benefit of cancelling a season. That’s not science, that’s opinion and common sense.(01-10-2021, 08:45 PM)winflop Wrote:(01-09-2021, 08:18 PM)chrisk Wrote:(01-09-2021, 08:13 PM)Mudhead Wrote: Just heard a rumor that Winter Quarter is cancelled. Is it true? If so, what does it mean for basketball program?
No it was not canceled. The university today told frosh and sophs they could not come to live on campus January 24 as previously expected.
Stanford said it would be contacting athletes regarding their situations.
The county’s stay-at-home order has been extended indefinitely by the state due to low ICU availability.
I have not seen any information about SCC changing its position on athletic practice and competition.
Any "contact" sport that is going to play will have to be done outside SCC through at least January, maybe longer. I can't think of a dumber group than SCC health officials
Considering that travel is a well-known risk factor for COVID spread, perhaps the dumb ones are all the health officials outside of Santa Clara County, and the schools who appear determined to hold a sports season in the midst of the worst of the pandemic, going so far as to playing the sport outside of the county so as to avoid that county's health dictums. I mean, Stanford cancelled in person teaching for winter quarter for a reason.
Particularly because we have multiple vaccines and are working to distribute them, maybe it can wait until later.
But Let’s talk basketball here. Apologies if I come across as insensitive or disrespectful; I’m not. We all have our views and they deserve to be heard. Just maybe not here. I for one am a simple basketball fan whio is fed up with arguments that can’t be resolved .
