If we are going to have a chance at a national championship, let alone a Pac 12 championship, we need to start rolling.  The game against Utah was a great start--but it is only a start.  We need to string together many such convincing victories to build the confidence of our young players and shake the confidence of opponents.  Let's hope we do it on national TV a couple of times, too.


In reflecting on this last weekend's games, it is not just that Colorado was a better team than Utah--it is hard to argue that Colorado is a great team given its record.  It is that we matched up much better against Utah than we did against Colorado.  Well, a whole bunch of teams that look more like Colorado than they do like Utah are coming our way.  I'd love to see a 40 point blowout of some of them.  That would certainly increase MY confidence!

81alum, I want to see this team show some grit in grinding out a win over a tough opponent. Win games that are close in the 4th quarter where we see players step up and the team execute well when the pressure is on. That will increase my confidence that they are ready for the P12 and NCAA tournaments.

I know that the team is capable of this type of performance. They ground out wins over UCLA and Oregon earlier in the season. But with the exception of the Colorado game, every victory over the last month has been by at least 22 points. Stanford lost the close ones at Colorado and vs. UCLA and looked tired and a bit out of sorts late in each game. Colorado and UCLA executed better. The team needs to have the muscle memory of performing well under pressure in a close game.
