- Another great game by Ki. If she keeps competing and filling it up like this, look out.
- Anna played superb. The D on Osborne, the charges, the loose balls and rebounds...tremendous.
- 24 points for Lexi on 17 shots. Fantastic.
- 13 boards for Haley, doing lots of the dirty work.
The only head scratcher for me is how we guarded Onyenwere. She got 30 against us! Haley just isn't quick enough and we also had Prechtel and Bilibi on her. I just don't get that. Why not Lexie and Lacie who can matchup with both size and speed? Is it the "she's gonna get hers anyway, so let's clamp down on everyone else" strategy? Unless it's a small guard who Anna can take, we struggle to stop the other team's best player.
Go Card!
my guess is that onyenwere is so beefy and strong that you need a big on her. the twins are quick but not as strong as haley. they often get knocked to the ground. i didn't see onyenwere run by haley too often. she hit a bunch of step back jumpers and turn around jumpers.
Yeah, she is strong and that makes total sense. Still, I'm not a fan of ever letting another team's player go off on you without at least trying to adjust and make it harder on her. Lexie and Lacie are so tough and competitive and would have made her work for every bucket. She created space pretty easily against Haley. The Hulls also could have denied her the ball, or made her work much harder to get it.
It worked out tonight against UCLA because they just don't have enough firepower with the players other than Osborne and maybe Chou to score enough to beat us when we put up 70+. But that's not the case with other teams, especially UConn. If we happen to meet them in the finals, which I think is looking more and more probable, we can't let Bueckers go off on us or it puts the game in jeopardy (unlike tonight). It will be tough to score 70 against UConn, so if Bueckers gets 30 we will be in trouble. They have 4 other players who can score.
Certainly not taking anything away from the tourney championship or anyone's play. What an awesome run!
