My son, who knows way more about basketball than his old man, believes Tara is the best x and o college coach in the country, men's or women's. On several occasions, she has devoted two or even three defenders to shut down a star, daring the others to beat us. If she decided in this game to let their star shoot step back mid range jumpers so we could shut down the other options, that was almost certainly our best option. And if Tara stuck with the strategy as the game wore on despite that star hitting those shots, well . . . it was working.
If Tara decides the best strategy is to shut down the other team's bestbest player even though that opens things up for others, that will almost certainly be the best option in that game, too. Different strokes . . .
Tara will put our players in the best position to win. It gets harder when the opponent has a star and other stars, of course, so we won't always win. But if we lose it will almost certainly not be due to scouting or strategic deficiencies.
