As for BC's question the pitcher who did it must have been an exceptional athlete. Just wowed by his stats. I would have put him into my guesses but somebody named him first.

Yeah, Terry got it, old-time pitcher with a long career playing in a big, oddly shaped field.  Walter Johnson pitched in the Senators' cavernous Griffith Stadium for much of his career.  He hit .235 for his career and had 2,529 plate appearances.  He hit 41 triples for his career, including 6 in 1913.  Overall, he averaged 7 triples per 162 games, which today would generally be good enough to make it into the top-10 for a position player.  Don't think we will see that again.
