Jenkins had interesting tidbit from Bill James. He believes Giants didn’t win more pennants  in 60’s because they had below average SS’s Broussard, Scoffield, Fuentes (I only remember him at second, actually) and Lanier.

I took a look at SFG by fielding WAR during the 1960s.  I would extend that to include their second basemen as well.  Here's the fielding WAR ranking from 10 MLB teams by SS and 2B in each year.  Looks like it was particularly true from 1963-1966:
