The problem with Terry's comparison is that expectations at Stanford should be different than expectations at OSU, just as the threshold for success at UCLA and Arizona are probably higher than at Stanford.

To clarify, what I take away from the comparison is this -- I don't see good evidence in the W/L record that Tinkle is better than Dawkins or Hasse.

Yeah, I get that he is a sentimental favorite because his daughter played at Stanford and they are members of the Stanford family.
I also get that (like Montgomery) he had a good record at Montana.
However, given his record at OSU I have a hard time believing he would do any better at Stanford than Dawkins and Haase have done.
