Utah was last in the final four in 1998 (sound familiar).  They've been to the sweet sixteen twice since the (2005, 2015), and to the tournament a bunch of times since their final four run, but only three since 2005 (2009, 2015, 2016).  In many ways, they are pretty similar to Stanford, except that they went to the tourney twice in the 2010's and Stanford has only been there in 2014.  I wouldn't be surprised if those two tourney appearances bought Larry Krystkowiak some goodwill for a couple of years.  In the end, six consecutive seasons without an NCAA tournament is too much.

I wonder what this board would think about a Stanford coach in a similar situation.
