I'm in the "give him credit for the two games " camp. Not only was he the official head coach, but more significantly, he was the coach during the season before the games -- being a coach is about more than being on the bench at a particular game. As the Yukon Coach for 2020-21, he's responsible for developing the players and the team over the  season.

There is an NCAA precedent for this.  I do remember this scenario.  In 1995, Duke was 9-3, then Coach K went out with a back injury and surgery.  The team under the assistant coach went 4-15 the rest of the season.  Duke officials then attributed that 4-15 record not to Coach K but to his assistant.  It was obviously an attempt on Duke's part to sanitize K's legacy.  There were yearly petitions to reverse the decision, and finally in 2011 the NCAA ruled that the 4-15 should go on K's record.

(Of course, if the rest of that 1995 season were 15-4, would Duke have done the same?)
