The bad non-call was a sour note for the game to end on, but blaming Carrington or Mulkey for not trying something else is a bit much. It's not like they ran a James Harden play that relied on drawing a foul instead of trying to make a shot.
Like all super close games, it could have gone either way if just one or two fewer mistakes during the game by either a player or a ref had been made. That's how sports go; everybody is only human.
