Then why did the Provost say in a meeting with reps from 36 Sports Strong (including Kristina Johnson, Stanford field hockey alum and current president of Ohio State, who understands how higher ed works) that there was more to the decision than just financial considerations?
That's easy to answer. Drell knew that the "financial considerations" answer wasn't going to stand up to the level of scrutiny being applied, so a vague reference to other considerations makes it easy for them to continue to hide the ball.
