Great article and story, thanks for sharing! I too grew up going to games with my father, who attended grad school at Stanford. In our case, we went decades not witnessing an away football win. It started away at $¢ in 1979 with that great come-from-behind tie and went downhill from there. Saw Elway and Emile Harry almost pull it out at UCLA. Saw the wretched loss at Memorial Stadium in 1982 and cried in the stands, in disbelief that my hero (and I, for that matter) wouldn't get to a bowl game. Saw losses at ASU, ND (many times), Oregon, Colorado, Washington. It finally came to a glorious end in 2010, over thirty years after my first away Stanford game, when we met at the Rose Bowl to witness Luck and the gang destroy the Bruins.
