It's time to start worrying about whether Stanford hosts a regional or not.

There were 20 "potential" regional hosts named, of which 16 will actually host. Or more practically to think about, four of those named will not.

The 20, with RPI in parentheses: Arizona (6), Arkansas (1), Charlotte (18), East Carolina (11), Florida (20), Gonzaga (24), Louisiana Tech (29), Mississippi (15), Mississippi State (5), Notre Dame (10), Oregon (17), Pittsburgh (48), South Carolina (14), Southern Mississippi (25), Stanford (13), Tennessee (9), Texas (3), Texas Christian (7), Texas Tech (8) and Vanderbilt (4).

There are two high RPI teams not on the list: Fairfield (2) and Old Dominion (12).

If the hosts are chosen by a straightforward evaluation of the top teams, Stanford is in good shape by any of the polls or RPI.
By RPI the four out would be Pittsburgh, Louisiana Tech, Southern Mississippi, and Gonzaga.

My fear is trouble if the NCAA tries to minimize travel for the field (that will be overwhelmingly southeastern as usual) and look to claim they are treating smaller conferences fairly.
Only two ACC teams were named possible hosts, non-traditional members Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. Immediately after being named a possible host Pitt went on a 7 game losing streak. Presumably that played them out of hosting, but they are the closest thing to a northeast team in the group.
The other three teams among the four worst RPIs are smaller conference teams.
 
I only see one new poll out so far, Stanford moved to #10 in Baseball America. Oregon #13. Gonzaga #20.
Other polls will be coming out later today.

My real fear is that the NCAA will only choose two or three western hosts, stating that the number of tournament teams in the west doesn't justify more. Stanford will be fine if they stay ahead of Oregon in the polls and RPI, and really should be fine even if not. But better not get swept this weekend.

You are right, I have seen the NCAA do some crazy things in baseball. This series will be big, I think the possibility of hosting is a bonus. I have to say this team is ahead of the expectation, and will serve them well with who they will lose in the lineup after this season. That 5-11 start last year put a real but question mark on this year, along with those freshman coming in and missing their Sr. year of playing. So basically some were coming in from Jr. year of HS to the Pac. 

Not knowing the academic schedule, but it would help to have finals over with to concentrate on the task at hand for this weekend and regional play!

There are no final exams this year except in professional schools.

Last day of undergrad classes is June 4.
