With the win, Stanford rose to tied for 10th in RPI, tied with Notre Dame. [This is effectively tied for ninth, since Fairfield is #2 but not a factor.]
Still think a top 8 seed is less likely than yes, but it's getting closer.
With a win today, Stanford is no worse than tied for second in the conference.
With a loss, Stanford is alone in third no matter any other result.
Question for the day: Is Zach Grech now Stanford's third starter?
RPI moves and oddities:
- Fairfield in the MAAC has been #2 in RPI for awhile. While playing in a small conference that was COVID restricted to conference-only games, they were something like 35-1 in their regular season. However, they have lost twice in their conference tournament (now 37-3), which still leaves them in the #2 RPI spot.
They must have fallen a lot, which means #1 Arkansas must be way ahead of the field.
There will probably be a rare MAAC two-team contingent in the tournament since Rider beat Fairfield for the conference title.
- Arizona drops 3 spots to 8th after losing a game to Dixie State (from the Dixie region of Utah, not the south).
- Notre Dame dropped from 10th to a tie for 10th after losing to Virginia.
- Texas Tech dropped from 6th to 9th after dropping two games yesterday. That's likely whom we have to beat out for a National top 8 seed.
- Mississippi State somehow rose two spots, from 9th to 7th, after not playing. Earlier this week they got blown out twice in the SEC tournament.
