Stanford wins the series but the RPI falls to 14. I think this is a good time to respect the hell out of the resiliency that this team has shown. Last year we were 5-11. This year, 33-14 and 3rd place in conference.
This team found ways to win in spite of the fact that they ranked 5th in conference games in batting average, 8th in on-base percentage and 6th in slugging percentage. Pitching-wise, we were 7th in Ks/9 and 5th in ERA. In spite of yesterday's performance we did finish 2nd in fielding percentage.
Brendan Beck is a superstar, but we'll go as far as our #2 and #3 starters take us. Grech as #2 and Williams as #3, maybe? Dixon as the closer, and Palisch and O'Rourke first out of the bullpen?

If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
