Nobody in our regional should be slept on. UC Irvine has a little bit of a pedigreed history, they tore though the Corvallis regional in 2014 when Oregon State was the #1 overall seed, then went to Oklahoma State for their super-regional on the road and advanced to Omaha. Nevada has at least one hitter who can mash like a vibe, as Sublime would say. And even newcomer North Dakota State, their successes in football and men's basketball are indicators of a good overall athletic program.
How does what a college team did in 2014 have anything to do with that school's 2021 squad?
Current UCI head coach Ben Orloff first joined their coaching staff as an assistant for the 2014 season. He might have had some good ingredients to add to the recipe.
More relevant to this season, their pitching took on a fearsome Nevada lineup and shut them down. Then again, North Dakota State's pitching also shut Nevada's hitting down, so......
