Turning the page to this evening's win-or-go-home game... This Stanford team has proven its resiliency all season. My only fear is that we are low on pitchers. So far in this regional:
Brendan Beck: 116 pitches on Saturday.
Alex Williams: 104 pitches on Friday.
Quinn Mathews: 59 pitches on Sunday.
Zach Grech: 56 pitches on Sunday.
I have to think these four pitchers are emergency use only.
Brandt Pancer: 16 pitches on Friday, 25 on Saturday.
Jacob Palisch: 10 pitches on Saturday, 25 pitches on Sunday.
Joey Dixon: 26 pitches on Sunday.
I think Pancer and Dixon should be available, but not sure about pitching Palisch three days in a row.
Austin Weiermiller: 17 pitches on Sunday.
Tommy O'Rourke: 16 pitches on Sunday.
Drew Dowd: 13 pitches on Friday.
Jonathan Worley: 2 pitches on Saturday.
These four should all be available tonight.
As CTCard noted, Drew Dowd would be the logical starter. We'll have other arms available, but not our best arms, of course.
The good news is that UCI is playing its fifth game in four days, so I'm guessing that their pitching staff is also overtaxed. I predict that the winner of this game will score 10+ runs. I also like the fact that Stanford is the home team in this game.
This has been an amazing turnaround season for Stanford, and I'll be watching ESPNU at 7 pm with hopes that it will continue.
