if I am following along correctly, if a higher rated seed than Stanford (#9 overall) loses, how does Stanford not get to host a super regional?

The tournament is set up with a pre-determined bracket (as are most, but not all NCAA tournaments). Thus seeds 1-16 host regionals, with the bracket such that superregionals are the winners of the regionals hosted by: #1 vs #16, #2 vs #15, #3 vs #14, #4 vs #13, #5 vs #12, #6 vs #11, #7 vs #8, and #8 vs #9.

Since #8 Texas Tech won their regional, and #9 Stanford won their regional - Stanford plays Texas Tech at Lubbock.

If the tournament had been reseeded after the regionals round, Stanford would have squeaked in as a host as one higher seeded team lost (#6 TCU). But, that has never been the way the baseball tournament has been run.
