It’s one thing to use Grech the way we did in the regional - he’s a sidearmer with no pro prospects. Throwing Beck out there again under any circumstances this weekend would be coaching malpractice.
Since Beck isn't pitching again this weekend anyway, going to the 114 pitch range seemed plausible. Crush their spirits!
I think the only people that really thought Beck might be used on Sunday were the two commentators. They were just babbling away to fill the time. Safe to assume they didn't discuss the team's pitching plan for the series with the Stanford staff since they weren't even at the venue to call the game.
