Shocking that Rivera is the only unanimous Hall of Famer, but also one of 14 pitchers in the HoF who never won a Cy Young since 1956 (when the Cy Young was established).

The unanimous HOF vote issue is a long standing topic of discussion. Some of the old guard writers would not vote for a player on the first ballot as a matter of principal. Hence, guys like Mays, Aaron and Seaver were not unanimously elected. Since the old guard has left us, a new wave of writers (ten year membership in the BBWA is required to receive a ballot) is now in a position to make “new traditions”. One of which is that it is “ok” if a player receives 100% of the votes. Rivera was the first beneficiary of this new approach to voting.
