Johnny Allen (142-75) with Yanks, & Indians.

My favorite was a one-year wonder named Bill James, who grew up in Iowa City, a California gold camp (he went to St. Mary's, briefly).  At the age of 22, he went 26-7, threw 30 complete games and was a key component of the 1914 "Miracle Braves" WS champs. Those Braves hadn't had a winning season between 1902 and 1913 and hadn't finished within 50 games of 1st place.

James had an injury from overuse, most likely a rotator cuff injury.  He was done at age 24.  He played in the PCL for a few years.
