Maybe it's for edification purposes. Made me look it up to figure out the reference.

It was put in the form of a question because I legitimately want to know why the posters (I think two people separately referred to him as "Luigi"). Maybe it was meant as a sign of respect. Maybe it was to get us all to look at his wikipedia page to learn more. Maybe Auriemma asked to be referred to by his given name, and I missed it. Maybe it was a way of "othering" him, which I wouldn't call sinister, but is probably unnecessary. I generally favor using the name that people prefer, and since I have never seen Auriemma refer to himself as Luigi, I'd just as soon refer to him Geno. However, I'm not the name police; people are free on this board to refer to him however they want. I was just curious about the motivations.
