Well, I just realized who you are. We have the foremost authority in the country on prep volleyball posting on Cardboard. I didn't know it until now.
In hindsight it's easy to give advice about telling the world you are committed to Stanford before being admitted. The problem is not everyone gets admitted. It can be pretty embarrassing to everyone concerned if the student is not admitted. My advice is to take the humbler approach. Most motivated students don't need the fear of future embarrassment to motivate them.
In any event I sure am glad your son went to Stanford. I know he had plenty of options in two sports.
