My brother in Ohio told me that he heard a report that Stanford and USC could end up in the Big 10 when the dust settles. FWIW.

If Stanford and USC were the first two choices of the Big 10, the only criteria that makes sense is to want Stanford for all the sports other than football.  Conversely it's hard to see all Stanford sports teams wanting to travel to Iowa, Indiana, Rutgers, and Maryland.
