Of course it's self serving. Many have already pointed out that Greg Sankey's endorsement of the 12-team playoff makes a lot more sense given that he was already in secret discussions with OU and UT. I'm sure other committee members would have thought and acted differently at the time if they had been aware of the SEC's expansion plan.
Per The Athletic, Pac12 commissioner, George Kliavkoff, has put the brakes on the 12 team playoff conversation. Because of the SEC secret discussion with UT and OK, everything is back on the table. He wants to be involved in future deliberations.
