Another way in which the rich could get richer, especially in sports with fewer allowable scholarships than FB.
If a mega-star athlete has a 6- or 7-figure NIL package, that could easily dwarf the size of the scholarship package, especially at less expensive schools. The mega-star athlete could say, "Forget the scholarship; I am competing as a walk-on," allowing the school to use the scholarship for one more recruit.
For example, Sunisa Lee's NIL package will be brobdingnagian. If she tells Auburn she doesn't need the scholarship, then Augurn could field a WGym team of Sunisa + 12 scholarship gymnasts, instead of Sunisa + 11 scholarship gymnasts (women's gymnastics being a head-count sport with a 12 scholarship limit). The possibility of competing on the same team as Sunisa and having an extra scholarship to offer could go a long way in recruiting a super team.
(Assuming the SC decision doesn't make limits on the number of scholarships/sport illegal.)
