Women’s soccer advanced to the semifinals in PKs.

I was shocked Davidson wasn't even in the 18. She's been great, and again, the Dahlkemper-O'Hara connection on the right side just wasn't there. But overall, this looked more like the USWNT. O'Hara gave up a penalty with a sloppy foul in the box, but Naeher saved that one to bail her out. Press looked sharp, scoring two goals that were ruled offside. (I think the US has had nine goals ruled offside so far this tournament? It's been bonkers.)

All very familiar teams in the semis. Canada got through on penalties over Brazil after a scoreless draw (and that's after all-time women's international goal-scoring leader Christine Sinclair of Canada was denied on the first shot and the great Marta buried hers to put Brazil up after the first round), Sweden was in control over Japan and won 3-1, and Australia won a banger of a match over Great Britain, 4-3. That's both of the top-scoring teams in the tournament, Brazil and the Netherlands, out in the quarters. The Netherlands scored 23 goals in this tournament, including an absurd 10 by Vivanne Miedema, but they didn't have enough today. Here's the bracket:

The idea that our group, G, was the Group of Death, is borne out by the fact it's produced three of the four teams left.
