Just saw Stanford put out a statement that Stanford is up to 19 total medals, including three Golds, 7 Silvers, and 9 Bronzes. But that includes multiple swimmers on relays and USWNT members (both Ledecky and Forde on the 4x200m relay, both Smith and Huske on the 4x100 medley relay, and five Bronzes from the five USWNT members). Which, you know, is well enough--there are 19 physical medals out there in the world with a Stanford connection. 

But that ain't how the Olympics counts medals--the US gets one Bronze for women's soccer, not 22 of them. We get one medal for each of those relays, not four. 

Is this the method they use for counting medals when they claim "Stanford would finish top 10 in the medal count" every Olympics? Has my alma mater been lying to me this entire time?!?!
