I guess I'm in the minority here because hearing of Shaw's high salary makes me proud of him. He's an African-American Stanford alum and former Stanford football player that has achieved success well above society's perceived expectations. He has also led our football team to some of our most exciting and most successful seasons ever, and is the winningest coach in Stanford history. Also, his salary is an indication against the notion that racism prevents black coaches from receiving commensurate compensation to white coaches. AFAIK he didn't hold a gun to Stanford's head and demand the money. I presume it was fairly negotiated, which by definition makes his salary the fair market value for his services.
